Strong Development of Fraport Twin Star Airports in the year 2011 The airports operated by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD – Burgas and Varna airports - serviced in 2011 a total of 3 435 152 PAX and 30 478 flights, which is a 10 % growth in pax number in comparison with the previous year and 7,3% increase in flights. Cargo handled at FTSAM AD also increased by 5,25 %. In 2011 for the first time the Russian market was the strongest market at both airports due to extremely high growth rates between 12 % and 35 %. In previous years the German customers were the strongest customer group. During the year 2011 "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD completed several large-scale investment projects at the two airports worth over BGN 75 million, including the construction of new buildings, the rehabilitation of the take-off and landing runway at the Varna airport, the improvement of underground infrastructure, the clean-up of the terrain and the launch of the construction of new passenger terminals, etc. More than 1000 workers took part in the construction works at the territory of both airports

On 19th January 2012 started a test flight program for checking the new constructed runway and airfield lighting system at Varna Airport. The large scale project of "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" for the rehabilitation of the runway, in which the company invested nearly BGN40 million, was launched on 15 October last year. The construction works are completed and the test flights started as scheduled. Test flights are required to check and calibrate the runway lighting system and the air navigation aids, approach and landing facilities and to ascertain the operational serviceability of air navigation equipment at Varna airport runway.   Series of test flights with a total duration of about 12 flying hours are in a process of execution by the airplane "Falcon 2000". The plane is equipped with the necessary equipment for test flights over the air navigation facilities and the crew is certified to carry out such flights.   Based on the results of tests Directorate General "Civil Aviation Administration" will issue a certificate for operational fitness of airport

The contract for the construction of the New Passenger Terminal Areas at Burgas and Varna airports has been signed today (15 November 2011) in Varna between „Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD and Consortium “TIE- İÇTAŞ”. On behalf of “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD the Contract has been signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the company Mr. Dirk Schusdziara and the Chief Financial Officer Mr. Rossen Philipov. On behalf of the Contractor the contract has been signed by engineer Erdinç Ulusoj- director of the Bulgarian branch of “İÇTAŞ Holding” and architect Ivan Todorov- executive director of “TechnoimportExport” AD. The ceremony has been attended by Mr. Atilla Gökçe- member of theboard of directors of “İÇTAŞ Holding”. With an official ceremony in the middle of October, Frapport Twin Star Airport Management AD gave start to the major infrastructural project of rehabilitating the runway at Varna Airport. The cost of the investment, which the concessionaire of the airport in Varna makes in preparing and realising the project, is close to 40 million leva. The executor of the project is the well-known German company Max Boegl Bauunternehmung. 500 workers are expected to take part in the construction works only at the territory of the airport. Brand new modern installations for polymer-modified asphalt were built close to the airport for the special purpose of the project, with a capacity of 240 tonnes per hour. The construction works will lay down about 130,000 tonnes asphalt. Advanced logistics and organisation will take place to ensure the coordination and synchronising of about 80 transport, construction and asphalt-laying machines, working at the same time 24 hours a day

Children's laughter and song filled the airports in Varna and Burgas, where this year the operator- Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, organized clown’s games, garnished with lots of goodies and gifts on the occasion of the International Children’s Day.
VIP guests at the airport were children from orphanages from both regions and children of the airports’ employees.

Inspired by the breathtaking views of the aircraft - a logical background of the celebration, all children made drawings of the airport and put on paper their imagination about aviation.
Gifts on the occasion of June 1st also received the smallest passengers who visited the airports in festive day.
The operator of the sea airports has a consecutive policy to attract children from two regions to the magic of aviation, to support institutions for disadvantaged children, children's hospitals and causes focused on the children`s development.
2010 - Successful year for the sea airports   Airports in Varna and Burgas operated by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD registered growth in passengers and flights in 2010. 3,121,551 is the total number of passengers handled by two airports during the year. 28,414 flights were serviced. Cargo of 5731.12 metric tons was handled. The data show liveliness of the aviation and tourism market, after the difficult 2009. Germany, Russia and Britain remain the key markets for the sea airports, handling mainly tourist charters to and from the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Burgas Airport - peak in July and August, 100% cargo growth  With the 1,894,109 passengers handled in 2010 Burgas airport registered a growth of 11.12 percent compared to the previous year. Growth of 1.30 percent marked the flights serviced by the southern airport managed by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD and the increase in cargo handling is 100% compared to the previous year and reached 5,653.67 metric tons in 2010. Today (19.10.2010) Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD at a special ceremony marked the commencement of the construction activities for several large infrastructure projects at Burgas Airport. The event was attended by the Deputy Regional Governor – Zlatina Dukova, the Deputy Mayor of Burgas – Krasimir Stoychev, representatives of the aviation and tourist industries, the authorities connected to the airport operation, the management of the Concessionaire Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD and Burgas Airport, as well as the construction companies executing the projects. Immediately after the end of the tourist season the Investor commenced the construction of new buildings at Burgas Airport, as part of the preparatory works prior to the construction of the New Passenger Terminals at Burgas and Varna Airports. This is the new Cargo building – its structure will be covered today, and the new Administration building at the airport – the preparatory works for it have already started. Within a month the works for the new Fire Station building shall be started – the design for it is already prepared and a contract with a construction company is signed

  Summer Internship Program of Fraport Twin StarAirport Management has Started This is for fourth consecutive year that Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD is going to arrange Summer Internship Program for young people, who are interested in acquiring experience in different aspects of airports` management and exploitation. The 10 weeks full time contract internship consists of one week of theoretical training and acquaintance with the company history, achievements, structure and policy, as well as all the specific airport activities, eight weeks - on-the-job training program and one week for preparing of a final project. At the end of the internship all the students will get a special certificate describing their individual tasks and performance during the internship.
