Varna Airport and Burgas Airport are the 1st Bulgarian airports granted ACI Airport Health Accreditation

The ACI Airport Health Accreditation certificate confirms the efforts made in the direction of applied health measures at the airports, so to ensure a COVID-free environment and safe airport travel.

Through an extensive assessment covering all aspects of health and safety measures being applied at the Black Sea airports, gathering vast quantities of information in over 60 areas of operation, alignment was validated with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and the ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force recommendations.

In addition, the airports clearly demonstrated applying the best practices in the industry on various topics, including: cleaning and disinfection, health screening, physical distancing, airport staff and passenger protection, extensive communications and facilities reconfiguration.

The attainment of the Airport Health Accreditation Certificate is a significant milestone in the long-term recovery planning of both Fraport Twin Star Airport Management airports. It further emphasizes the airport’s sustainable practices targeting the safety and security of its employees and passengers.

For the past year, winning back passenger confidence has been a priority for the airport operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management who undertook a series of auxiliary initiatives in this direction. Treating thousands of high-contact passenger and employee areas with permanent anti-microbial nano-coat Liquid Guard for long-term surface protection and introducing Safe Airport Journey Agents responsible for safety measures surveillance and facilitating passengers through their airport experience are a few examples in addition to the introduction of self-service tools and contactless processes, increased communication and cooperation with regulatory authorities and reached headway in passenger information services.

“I am especially happy and proud of this recognition which credits our continuous efforts to provide safety and security to our passengers and employees in times of COVID-19. I am especially grateful for the commitment of the colleagues of our Black Sea airports during the course of this extraordinary time, which we are able to successfully manage together.” - said Dr. Frank Quante, CEO of Fraport Bulgaria.

The Airport Health Accreditation is an additional source of motivation for Fraport Twin Star Airport Management to continue to further improve the safe passenger experience at the gateway Black Sea coastal airports through innovative tools and sustainable strategies in unison with the local communities where it operates.
