WizzAir Summer Base at Varna Airport Celebrate 5 years

Wizz Air and Fraport Twin Star celebrate 5 years since the opening of the airline's Varna base.

During this period, Wizz Air passengers served to/from the maritime airport numbered 2 million.

21 July 2022, Varna: Wizz Air, Europe's fastest growing and most sustainable airline, and Varna Airport, part of Fraport Twin Star, celebrates today 5 years since the opening of the Wizz Air base in the maritime capital! On 21 July 2017, the airline opens its summer base for the first time with 1 based aircraft at the seaside airport and launches flights to a total of 8 year-round destinations. Since then, Wizz Air has served a total of 2 million passengers to and from Varna and has travelled over the years to 24 great destinations in a total of 14 countries.

The airline currently has 3 Airbus aircraft based at Varna Airport. The second  aircraft was added in the summer of 2019 along with 7 new destinations.The airline's growth over these 5 years, despite the challenges of the pandemic, is a testament to its commitment to the Bulgarian market and its ambitions to make air travel accessible to more and more passengers.

Today the airline operates flights to 17 destinations in 8 countries from Varna, namely: Germany (Baden-Baden, Berlin, Dortmund, Cologne, Memmingen, Nuremberg, Frankfurt-Hahn, Hamburg), Austria (Vienna), Belgium (Brussels Charleroi), the Netherlands (Eindhoven), Cyprus (Larnaca), United Kingdom (Liverpool, London Luton, London Gatwick), the Czech Republic (Prague) and Israel (Tel Aviv). The strong development of Wizz Air's base in the maritime capital not only significantly expands travel opportunities from Varna Airport, but also contributes to the development of local tourism and the country's economy. The airline is actively recruiting, mainly for cabin crew and pilot positions, and has so far opened over 150 direct jobs in Varna. Wizz Air plans to continue investing in the development of its Varna base as it considers it extremely promising together with the entire Bulgarian market.
