Burgas and Varna Airports reached 59% growth in the passenger service in 2022

Last year, the airports in Varna and Burgas welcomed 3.1 million passengers and served more than 23.7 thousand flights of 72 Bulgarian and foreign airlines operating charter and scheduled flights to more than 121 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. There is a trend of the gradual recovery of passenger traffic, despite the unpredictable situation, caused by the war conflict in Ukraine, as “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD ended the year with 59% growth of the passengers served, in comparison with 2021!

At the beginning of September 2022, Varna Airport welcomed its 1,000,000 passengers, and flight programs of 55 airlines to 89 destinations were successfully performed at the airport for the whole year.

More than 1.48 million passengers have been served, which is an increase of 47% compared to 2021! Most of the passengers have been served by the top five countries: Germany (473 thousand), Bulgaria (211 thousand), the United Kingdom (141 thousand), Austria (118 thousand), and Poland (101 thousand). The top destinations from Varna Airport were: Sofia, London, Vienna, Berlin, and Tel Aviv. A new route with charter flights was opened last year - Nevşehir, Turkey, and 4 (four) airlines started flying from/to Varna Airport.

11,420 flights have been served at the airport, of which 8,359 were regularly scheduled flights, and 1,999 were charter flights. Most charter flights served the following destinations: Katowice, Leipzig, Warsaw, Dusseldorf, and Hannover.

The months with the most intensive traffic of passengers for the last year were: July, August, and September, and the day with the biggest number of served passengers - 11,461 was July 26. A total of 104 tons of cargo were handled last year.

At the beginning of August 2022, Burgas Airport welcomed its 1,000,000th passenger for the year, as flight programs of 50 airlines to 85 destinations were served.

The airport welcomed 1.63 million passengers, which is an impressive growth of 72% compared to 2021! The top five countries from which Burgas Airport served the most passengers have been: Poland (421 thousand), the United Kingdom (372 thousand), the Czech Republic (201 thousand), Germany (155 thousand), and Israel (79 thousand). The top destinations from Burgas Airport were: London, Warsaw, Katowice, and Tel Aviv. 6 (six) new airlines operated flights to/from Burgas Airport, and 3 (three) new routes have been included in the airport portfolio - Antalya, Turkey; Zielona Góra, Poland; Bari, Italy.

A total of 12,293 flights have been operated at the airport, of which 5,489 were regularly scheduled, and 5,169 were charter flights. The largest number of charter flights served the following destinations: Katowice, Prague, Warsaw, Tel Aviv, and Manchester.

The months with the most intensive traffic at the airport were: June, July, and August, and the day with the biggest number of passengers was July 29 - a total of 25,686 passengers. A total of 6244 tons of cargo and mail were transported last year.
