Last year, the airports in Varna and Burgas welcomed nearly 2 million passengers. They served more than 17,000 flights of 70 Bulgarian and foreign airlines operating charter and scheduled flights to more than 96 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. There is a trend of the gradual recovery of passenger traffic, despite the still unpredictable situation caused by the spread of COVID-19, as Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD ended the year with 89% growth of the passengers served, in comparison with 2020!
In 2021, Varna Airport welcomed its 1,000,000 passengers, and flight programs of 50 airlines to 67 destinations were successfully performed at the airport for the whole year.
More than 1,004,970 passengers have been served, which is an increase of 62% compared to 2020! Most of the passengers have been served by the top five countries: Germany (318 thousand), Bulgaria (174 thousand), Poland (85 thousand), the United Kingdom (81 thousand), and Austria (69 thousand).
The top destinations from Varna Airport were: Sofia, London, Vienna, Moscow and Berlin. A new route was opened last year - Rostov, Russia, and 6 (six) airlines started flying from/to Varna Airport. 9,239 flights have been served at the airport, of which 6,853 were scheduled, and 1,275 were charter flights.
Most charter flights served the following destinations: Katowice, Leipzig, Moscow, Dusseldorf and Tel Aviv.
The months with the most intensive traffic of passengers for the last year were: July, August and September, and the day with the biggest number of served passengers - 12,053 was August 17.
A total of 34 tons of cargo were handled last year.
In 2021, Burgas Airport operated flight programs of 49 airlines to 70 destinations. The airport served 947,650 passengers, which is an impressive growth of 129% compared to 2020!
The top five countries from which Burgas Airport served the most passengers have been: Poland (242 thousand), the Czech Republic (154 thousand), Germany (128 thousand), Russia (84 thousand), and the United Kingdom (49 thousand).
The top destinations from Burgas Airport were: Prague, Warsaw, Moscow, Katowice and London. 6 (six) new airlines operated flights to/from Burgas Airport and 4 new routes have been included in the airport portfolio - Eindhoven, Netherlands; Lublin, Poland; Cluj, Romania and Liverpool, UK.
A total of 8,295 flights have been operated at the airport, of which 4,702 were scheduled, and 2,232 were charter flights. The largest number of charter flights served the following destinations: Prague, Katowice, Leipzig, Bratislava and Tel Aviv.
The months with the most intensive traffic at the airport were: July, August and September, and the day with the biggest number of passengers was August 20 - a total of 16,840 passengers.
4669 tons of cargo and mail were transported last year.
