Traffic Development of Burgas Airport

“Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD continues to make every possible effort for the development of the traffic and infrastructure of Burgas Airport, fulfilling earnestly, timely, and entirely all its commitments and obligations to the state, in its role as a responsible concessionaire and good employer of hundreds of employees - permanent and seasonal staff. Burgas Airport is open for regular and cargo flights, providing the best possible and safe service to all passengers, visitors, and customers.

In 2022, Burgas Airport recorded a remarkable growth of 72% in passenger service, compared to 2021, which represents a total number of 1.63 million passengers. 12,293 flights were served, of which 5,489 regular and 5,169 charter flights, and flight programs of 50 airlines to 85 destinations were operated. It is important to mark that this growth has been achieved despite the absence of flights from the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and Belarus, which were amongst the main markets for the sea airport before the military conflict on Ukrainian territory that began early last year. As many as 6 new airlines performed flights from and to Burgas Airport and 2 new routes were added to the airport portfolio – Antalya (Turkey), and Zielona Gora (Poland).

Moreover, for another year Burgas Airport has proven that it offers the highest level of safety and prompt service to all its passengers, as the airport was amongst the few ones in Europe which managed the operate smoothly during the past summer season, thanks to the strong recruitment campaigns and Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD's employer brand. For the past 16 years, "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD has established itself as one of the most desirable employers in the region, offering not only attractive and safe working conditions but also being one of the very few companies in the aviation sector in Europe and the world that did not dismiss employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This development is founded on the continuous and active promotion of Burgas Airport throughout the years at Europe’s largest international tourism fairs: WTM London, ITB Berlin, IFTM Top Resa Paris, at tourism industry events in: Vienna, Warsaw, etc., through constant communication with the airlines towards launching new routes. In 2023 we expect more direct services – from Poznan (Poland), Kaunas (Lithuania), and Dublin (Ireland) by Ryanaiar, from Riga (Latvia) by airBaltic, and from Szczecin (Poland) by European Air Charter. “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD also promoted Burgas Airport at a tourism roadshow in Poland, organized with the support of the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria, from 24th to 28th October 2022, where many B2B meetings were held.

“Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD is ready for an early start of Summer 2023, already at the end of March, expecting to service regular and charter flights from/to 10 destinations in 6 countries.

Meanwhile, "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD does not stop investing in the infrastructure of Burgas Airport, as the investment program for the airport is implemented according to a plan and schedule in full coordination with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Bulgaria.

"Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD works intensely with airline partners to develop the connectivity of Burgas Airport, in and outside the peak summer season. The airport operator is one among multiple factors shaping the connectivity in the winter period of a destination with distinctive seasonality. The strong demand towards a certain destination in- and outbound by a high number of potential passengers is the most important factor for a year-round route.
