Varna Airport solemnly welcomed its passenger № 1 000 001 for 2023

At a special ceremony, an Austrian Airlines passenger was surprised with many gifts and sunny mood

On July 26th, Varna Airport solemnly welcomed its passenger № 1 000 001 for the year with many gifts, cake-cutting, and a festive mood! Ms. Milena Giusto, who arrived on an Austrian Airlines flight, was personally welcomed by the Mayor of the Municipality of Varna – Mr. Ivan Portnih, as well as by the entire management of our sea airport, headed by the Airport Director – Mr. Dimitar Kostadinov, and the Chief Coordination Officer of “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD – Mr. Nikolay Sekalov.

Milena Giusto received as a souvenir from "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD a backpack and a suitcase, branded especially for the occasion, with wishes that she will continue to visit our country many times in the future, and from Austrian Airlines she was surprised with a red bag.

This year, Varna Airport welcomed its passenger № 1 000 001 more than a month earlier, compared to 2022, which is an indicator of the recovery of traffic at the sea airport after the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a significant decrease in air traffic worldwide.

This year, Varna Airport reported its busiest winter season in history, offering a rich variety of destinations – 18, serving a record number of flights and passengers. For the first half of the year (January-June 2023), the airport reports growth of +58%, compared to 2022 and +9%, compared to pre-pandemic data of 2019.

Austrian Airlines started operating flights to Varna Airport back in 2005 and with its wide network of destinations, has been successfully connecting Varna and the region to many countries around the world for 18 years. On the Vienna-Varna route, nearly 12 000 aircraft movements have been carried out to date, carrying approximately 1 000 000 passengers, which is the biggest proof of the popularity of this flight line over the years. It takes place all year round, in the summer season it is daily, and in winter it is operated 4 times a week.

“As Fraport Bulgaria, we are very happy to grow our traffic in 2023, but much more is needed to position Bulgaria as a tourist destination. We need much more marketing in our core countries and attract new markets such as North Europe and the Middle East. But today all of us celebrate, we are very happy about to welcome passenger № 1 000 001!”, said Dr. Frank Quante, CEO of “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD."

We are proud to celebrate our 1 000 001 passenger today together with our long-term partner, Varna Airport!   This impressive figure is a milestone in our successful cooperation since 2005 and we want to express our gratitude to Varna Airport, as their professionalism and efficiency are instrumental in making our flights run smoothly. Together, we look forward to continuing to provide an excellent travel experience and to take our partnership into a successful future," said Michael Trestl, CCO of Austrian Airlines.

Varna Airport is very much looking forward to serving all the passengers and guests with the renowned high level of quality in services and ensuring smooth traveling for the passengers!
