In this regard, "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" AD assures that any closure of Varna Airport and Burgas Airport is planned very carefully and will not be carried out in an active summer season! The avoidance of the impact on traffic is a top priority for the rehabilitation of the runway.

From the beginning of the concession, “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD took the commitment to continuously maintain the runway of Burgas Airport. We would like to clarify that any periodical rehabilitation of the airport infrastructure is absolutely necessary for Burgas Airport to operate the airport in a safe and compliant way.  

The upcoming renovation of the Burgas Airport runway, possibly in 2025, is still in the early stages of planning, and not finally approved. It will be carried out in the least busy months of the year for the airport, so that it does not affect the summer season of 2025. At Varna Airport, a rehabilitation was successfully carried out 12 years ago and needed a 6-month closure of the operations.
