A truly special celebration took place on 09.07.2025 at Varna Airport as Austrian Airlines marked 20 years since the launch of their direct flights between Vienna and the Bulgarian Black Sea city. Since 2005, the airline has been a vital bridge between Varna and the world, offering seamless connections through Vienna to numerous international destinations.

The anniversary was celebrated with warmth, color, and a touch of Bulgarian tradition. Passengers arriving on the fully booked Austrian Airlines flight from Vienna were greeted with lavender oil-scented wooden vials, a festive water salute, and a stunning cake-cutting ceremony inside the VIP lounge. Each guest received specially designed sunglasses and handmade branded cookies – souvenirs to remember this joyful occasion.

Since the beginning of operations, Austrian Airlines has performed nearly 13,315 aircraft movements on the Vienna–Varna route, carrying approximately 1,180,850 passengers in both directions. The route serves a wide variety of travelers – from holidaymakers and business passengers to those using Vienna as a convenient hub for longer international journeys.

Operating year-round, the airline currently runs 10 flights per week during the 2025 summer season. In 2023, Austrian Airlines also had the honor of flying the Varna Airport’s one-millionth passenger of the year.
