Varna Airport Adds a New Key European Destination - Direct Flights to Rome with Wizz Air

Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD is pleased to announce that  Wizz Air is launching a new direct air route between Varna Airport and Rome Fiumicino Airport. Flights on the route will commence  on 22 September 2026  and will operate  three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased at wizzair.com and via the airline’s mobile application.

The new route will further enhance air connectivity between Bulgaria and Italy, one of the most preferred markets for Bulgarian passengers for both leisure and business travel. The launch of the direct Varna-Rome service is the result of the consistent efforts of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD to attract new airlines and destinations, as well as the active partnership with Wizz Air.  This is the second scheduled route from Varna Airport to Italy, following the Varna-Bergamo route, which was launched on 16 September 2025.

Rome is among Europe’s most iconic capitals, combining over 2,700 years of history with world-renowned landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Vatican, alongside a vibrant contemporary urban environment, rich culture and culinary traditions. The direct connection from Varna creates excellent opportunities for both short city breaks and longer leisure trips.

The new direct route between Varna and Rome is a tangible result of our long-term efforts to develop air connectivity along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and of our active cooperation with airline partners. Italy is among the key markets with growing interest for both leisure and business travel, while Rome is a leading European hub offering excellent transfer opportunities and access to the global aviation network. Our partnership with Wizz Air is essential for expanding the destination portfolio from Varna Airport and for strengthening its position as a competitive and modern regional airport,” said Michael Reusch, Chief Executive Officer of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

With the launch of the new direct Varna-Rome Fiumicino route, we continue to expand international travel opportunities from the Black Sea region and respond to the growing demand for Italy. The new service offers a convenient connection to one of Europe’s most significant capitals and is part of our long-term commitment to sustainable growth in Bulgaria. Our investments in a modern fleet, operational reliability and an enhanced customer experience through our Customer First Compass programme enable us to offer an increasing number of affordable and convenient international travel options from Bulgarian airports,” commented Anastasia Novak, Corporate Sustainability and Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

Varna Airport looks forward to welcoming all passengers with its hallmark high-quality service and will continue to ensure a pleasant and seamless travel experience!
