Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD officially inaugurated a cutting-edge outdoor gate zone at Burgas Airport, marking another major step in reimagining the airport experience along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. Together with the Gate Garden at Varna Airport, the two coastal airports now stand out as the first in Europe to offer fully equipped open-air gate areas.

The new gate zone at Burgas Airport covers 2,200 square meters, representing a 40% increase in total gate-area space. With the initial opening of two operational gates, the airport’s departure capacity has already expanded by nearly 20%. Once the additional two gates are activated in 2026, overall handling capacity will grow by 35%.

The official opening ceremony brought together the management of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, including Ms. Denitza Weismantel, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board, Mr. Michael Reusch, CEO of the company, and Mr. Vasil Atanasov, Director of Burgas Airport. Among the honored guests were Mr. Vladimir Krumov, Regional Governor of Burgas Region, and Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of Burgas.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was accompanied by a traditional blessing conducted by His Eminence Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven, who prayed for the prosperity and safety of the airport and its employees.

The outdoor gate project and the terminal renovation represent a joint investment of more than €9.5 million by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD and its long-term commercial partners – Nuance BG (part of Avolta Group) and Lagardère Travel Retail.
