Burgas Airport strengthens its air connectivity with France through a new Volotea route

Burgas Airport continues to expand its route network even as major infrastructure works are underway

While construction of the airport’s new runway progresses, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD’s efforts to attract new airline partners and open new destinations remain stronger than ever!

For the Summer 2026 season, the low-cost carrier Volotea will launch a new direct seasonal service between Lille and Burgas. The first flight is scheduled for 27 May 2026, with one weekly frequency every Wednesday. Tickets are already on sale.

With this new service, Burgas Airport becomes the second airport in Bulgaria served by Volotea. The new direct connection between Northern France and Burgas will support the development of tourism along Bulgaria’s Southern Black Sea coast by attracting more visitors from the French market. It will also provide convenient travel opportunities for Bulgarian tourists and the Bulgarian diaspora in France.

Michael Reusch, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, commented:

We are delighted to strengthen our connectivity with France by welcoming Volotea to Burgas Airport. Even while we are investing heavily in the construction of our new runway, we continue to work actively with our airline partners to expand our route network. The new Lille to Burgas service is a strong signal of confidence in the destination and in the long-term development of the region.”

Founded in 2011, Volotea operates  19  bases across Europe, focusing on medium-sized cities with a strong presence in France,  Italy, and Spain. The airline has been recognised as Europe’s Leading Low-Cost Airline at the World Travel Awards in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025.

Valeria Rebasti, International Market Director at Volotea, said:

“We are very happy to start operating at Burgas Airport with this new seasonal route from Lille. This direct connection will strengthen links between France and Bulgaria, supporting tourism to the Southern Black Sea coast and offering Bulgarian travelers a new, convenient option to reach Northern France. We look forward to  keep on working with the Fraport Twin Star Team  and to welcoming our passengers on board from next summer.”

The Lille to Burgas route was last available in 2023. Its return as a direct service marks a significant step in enhancing air connectivity between France and Bulgaria.

By adding this new French route, Burgas Airport reaffirms its commitment to investing simultaneously in infrastructure and in the sustainable growth of its route network, even during one of the most significant construction phases in its history.
