Wizz Air resumes flights from Varna to Milan and surprises eight lucky passengers with special “Pink Tickets”

For eight years, the airline has carried nearly five million passengers to and  from the seaside capital

Wizz  Air and  Varna Airport last night celebrated the resumption  of direct flights to Milan Bergamo  – one  of Europe’s most popular centers for fashion, culture, and business. The event also marked the  8th anniversary  of Wizz Air’s base  in Varna, from which the airline has carried nearly five million passengers to date. The celebration took place  at the newly inaugurated Gate Garden  at Terminal 2 – the first  of its kind open-air gate area  in Europe.

To mark the anniversary, eight lucky passengers on the first flight to Milan discovered  “Pink Tickets” – a Wizz  Air voucher worth  20 euros, reminiscent  of Willy Wonka’s  “Golden Ticket,” redeemable for future travels across Wizz Air’s network.

The new connection to Northern Italy will operate twice weekly  – every Tuesday and Saturday  – offering travelers convenient access to the fashion capital, both for leisure and business trips.

Over the years, the base  in Varna has become  a key factor for the development  of air connectivity along Bulgaria’s Northern  Black Sea coast. Since its establishment  in 2017, the route network has continuously expanded, now covering more than  10 European destinations  – among them London, Brussels, Tel Aviv, Hamburg, and Eindhoven, with  a new route to Bratislava launching on  15 November. In spring  2025, Wizz  Air stationed  a second Airbus  A321neo aircraft  in Varna, boosting capacity, creating new job opportunities, and offering passengers even more travel options.

Resuming flights to Milan Bergamo is an important step  in expanding our network  from Varna and  a wonderful way to celebrate eight years  of successful operations  in Bulgaria’s seaside capital,” said  Anastasia Novak, Corporate Sustainability and  Communications Manager  at Wizz  Air. The symbolic surprise with the  ‘Pink Tickets’ is our way  of thanking our passengers for choosing to fly with us and adding  a touch  of fun to their journey. Let’s  WIZZ together to new destinations!”

Wizz  Air has been  a valuable partner  of Varna Airport ever since their very first flight back  in 2007. Together, we have celebrated important milestones  – the opening  of their  Varna base, the stationing  of a second aircraft and hopefully soon  a third one. Since  2018, Wizz  Air has been the market leader here, and nearly five million passengers have traveled with us to and  from Varna. We are proud that  Varna stands among Wizz Air’s top-performing bases  in terms  of punctuality  – a true reflection  of our shared commitment to operational excellence. Today, we are particularly delighted about the long-awaited re-launch  of the Bergamo route, and we look forward to further strengthening this successful partnership,” said  Michael Reusch, CEO of Fraport Twin Star  Airport Management AD.

Wizz  Air continues to invest  in the development  of its base  in Varna, creating jobs and contributing to the region’s economic growth. In 2025 alone, Wizz  Air has operated more than  2,500 flights to and  from Varna, with  99.3% of them completed as scheduled. The airline holds  a 39% market share  in the city and has carried nearly  450,000 passengers this year, establishing itself as the leading carrier  in the region.
