Wizz Air is celebrating today the 8th anniversary of its successful operations from its base in Bulgaria’s seaside capital, Varna. This was Wizz Air’s first summer base in the country and since 2017, the airline has served more than 4.8 million passengers to and from Varna, offering affordable travel opportunities to 13 destinations across 6 countries.

In April 2025, the airline stationed a second Airbus A321neo aircraft in Varna, reaffirming its commitment to the region and increasing its capacity in response to growing passenger demand.

Currently, Wizz Air offers flights from Varna to 13 destinations in 6 countries, including:

  • Belgium (Brussels Charleroi)
  • Germany (Berlin, Dortmund, Memmingen, Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Leipzig)
  • Israel (Tel Aviv)
  • Italy (Milan Bergamo)
  • The United Kingdom (London Luton, London Gatwick)
  • The Netherlands (Eindhoven)

Wizz Air is the only airline offering direct flights from Varna to Milan Bergamo (Tuesdays and Saturday), to Eindhoven (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), as well as the only carrier with daily year-round flights between Varna and London.

“Eight years of partnership and sustainable growth in Varna are a testament to the strong connection between Wizz Air and the region. We are proud to hold a 20% market share in this city and to have served nearly 300,000 passengers this year alone. We are pleased to offer travel and connectivity options for our customers, whether they are flying for business, leisure, or to visit loved ones. We will continue working responsibly and thoughtfully with our partners at Varna Airport and with all the passengers who choose Wizz Air for their journeys,” said Anastasia Novak, Corporate Sustainability & Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

“Wizz Air is a key partner and a major contributor to Varna’s aviation landscape. Their ongoing expansion — including the addition of a second aircraft this spring — reflects our shared commitment to enhancing the airport’s connectivity and creating new opportunities for the region. We’re excited to continue growing this strong partnership and to welcome even more passengers to Varna Airport in the years to come.”, added Michael Reusch, Chief Executive Officer of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

So far in 2025, Wizz Air has already operated over 1,800 flights from Varna to its various destinations, achieving a flight completion rate of 99.1%. With one of the best punctuality records in the industry – 82.1% – the airline continues to offer reliable and efficient service using some of the most modern aircraft in the Airbus A320 Family.

Varna Airport looks forward to welcoming all passengers with its signature high-quality service, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable travel experience!
