Burgas Airport and Varna Airport have successfully achieved  Level 3 (“Optimisation”) under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme  – the globally recognised standard for carbon management and reduction in the aviation sector.

Airport Carbon Accreditation is the only global programme of Airports Council International (ACI) that independently assesses and certifies airports’ efforts to manage and reduce their carbon footprint.

Achieving  Level 3 – “Optimisation”  certifies that Burgas Airport and Varna Airport not only meet all the requirements of Levels 1 and 2 of the programme, but also actively work with  stakeholders -  airlines, ground handling operators, public authorities, suppliers and other partners to reduce carbon emissions beyond the airport operator’s direct operational control.

The accreditation is another recognition of the consistent sustainability policy of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD  and confirms the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact through concrete, measurable and long-term actions.

In recent years, the company has implemented a number of initiatives in support of sustainable development, including the construction of photovoltaic parks at both airports, investments in energy efficiency, modernisation of airport infrastructure and optimisation of operational processes.

The next phase includes maintaining the achieved Level 3 accreditation, continuously monitoring carbon emissions and implementing new initiatives in support of the long-term strategy for the full decarbonisation  of Burgas Airport and Varna Airport.
