The world premiere celebrated the people, expertise and ambition behind Bulgaria’s largest private airport infrastructure investment

The remarkable transformation  of Burgas Airport took centre stage with the world premiere  of the documentary  “Connecting  Burgas with Tomorrow”, presented as  a special event within the official programme  of the  Burgas International Film Festival  (BIFF).

Held on  22 July  at the  NHK Cultural Centre  in Burgas, the red  carpet premiere brought together representatives  of national and local institutions, the aviation and tourism industries, the business community, the cultural sector, project partners and the  media. The evening celebrated not only the completion  of an exceptional infrastructure project, but also the expertise, commitment and collective effort that made this landmark achievement possible.

Produced by  Fraport Twin Star  Airport Management AD  and created by  BG Media Ltd., the documentary tells the inspiring story behind the comprehensive rehabilitation  of the runway  at Burgas Airport - the  largest single private investment  in airport infrastructure ever undertaken  in Bulgaria.

With an investment exceeding  60 million  EUR, the project was successfully completed between  November  2025 and April  2026, enabling  Burgas Airport to welcome the  2026 summer season with  a fully rehabilitated runway built to the highest international standards  of safety, quality and operational performance.

Filmed throughout the implementation  of the project,  “Connecting  Burgas with Tomorrow”  takes viewers behind the scenes  of one  of the most ambitious and technically demanding undertakings  in the history  of Bulgarian aviation. Authentic footage captured during all key stages reveals the immense scale  of the construction works, the complexity  of the engineering solutions and the extraordinary level  of coordination required to deliver the project within an exceptionally demanding timeframe. The documentary was directed by  Stefan Boboychev  and authored by  Daniela Kostadinova. The screenplay was written by  Daniela Kostadinova  and  Lalka  Dimitrova, with  Stoycho  Ivanov  serving as Director  of Photography.

At the heart  of the film are the people whose professionalism, resilience and determination transformed an ambitious vision into  a lasting achievement. The documentary pays tribute to the engineers, construction specialists, airport professionals, operational teams and partners who worked with unwavering commitment to secure the future  of one  of Bulgaria’s most strategically important airports.

The official program was marked with welcome addresses delivered by  Emil Ovanesov, Director  of the  Burgas International Film Festival, and  Michael Reusch, Chief Executive Officer  of Fraport Twin Star  Airport Management AD. The film was also presented by its author –  Daniela Kostadinova.

More than  a record  of a major construction achievement,  “Connecting  Burgas with Tomorrow”  is  a powerful story about vision, responsibility and progress. It demonstrates how long-term investment  in modern airport infrastructure strengthens safety, supports tourism and regional economic development, and enhances the international connectivity  of Burgas and Bulgaria’s  Southern Black Sea coast.

The world premiere marked the culmination  of a project that has already secured an important place  in the modern history  of Bulgarian aviation. Through the language  of cinema, the scale and significance  of the runway rehabilitation were presented beyond technical figures and construction milestones  – as  a human achievement driven by shared purpose, exceptional expertise and confidence  in the future.

The enthusiastic reception  of the film confirmed the strength  of its message:  Burgas Airport is not simply prepared for the challenges  of tomorrow  – it is actively building the infrastructure, connectivity with the world and opportunities that will shape it.
