Varna Airport Expands Its Connectivity: Wizz Air Bases Third Aircraft and Launches Five New Routes

Varna Airport is entering the summer season with one of the most significant expansions of its air network in its history!  Wizz Air will base a third aircraft in the coastal city and launch five new direct routes to leading European destinations  -  Barcelona  (Spain),  Athens  (Greece),  Paris Beauvais  (France),  Debrecen  (Hungary) and  Gdansk  (Poland). As a result, the number of destinations served by the airline from Varna Airport during Summer 2026 will increase to  a total of 23!

The new route programme will be rolled out dynamically from mid-June. The first flights to  Athens, Paris Beauvais  and  Gdansk  are scheduled for  15 June 2026, while the new services to  Barcelona  and  Debrecen  will commence the following day, on  16 June. The expansion will lead to a substantial increase in available capacity and will provide passengers with a wider choice of travel opportunities, while also supporting inbound tourism and economic activity across the entire Black Sea region.

A particularly strong highlight of the new programme is the launch of regular flights to  Paris Beauvais  (twice weekly  -Wednesdays and Sundays), positioning Varna among the very few regional cities in Europe with access to three different Paris airports within a single summer season. In addition to the new Wizz Air service to Paris Beauvais, passengers will also be able to choose flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle operated by Bulgaria Air, as well as services to Paris Orly operated by Transavia. This significantly enhances connectivity with the French capital and creates new opportunities for both tourism and business travel.

The return of regular flights to  Barcelona  (three times weekly  -  Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) is also an important signal of the sustainable recovery in demand, as the last regular summer programme on this route was operated in 2021 under pandemic-related restrictions.

For the first time, Varna will also benefit from a full regular summer schedule to  Athens  (three times weekly – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), further strengthening regional connectivity across the Balkans and facilitating both tourist exchange and short city-break travel.

At the same time,  Debrecen  (three times weekly  -  Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) is introduced as an entirely new destination in Varna Airport’s network, expanding access to Central Europe and creating new opportunities for the development of two-way tourism flows.

The route to  Gdansk  (three times weekly  -  Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) complements the already strong presence of the Polish market, which traditionally ranks among the most dynamically growing source markets for the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

In addition to the newly announced routes, Wizz Air is also preparing to launch several previously announced services that will connect Varna with  Rome  (Italy),  Warsaw, Katowice, Wroclaw  (Poland),  Budapest  (Hungary),  and  Larnaca(Cyprus), further expanding the network of direct connections with Europe.

We warmly welcome Wizz Air’s decision to further expand its presence at Varna Airport by basing a third aircraft and launching new direct routes. This development is an important step towards strengthening the connectivity of the Black Sea region and enhancing Varna’s attractiveness as both a tourism and business destination. The additional capacity and new destinations will create more travel opportunities for passengers, support inbound tourism and contribute positively to the regional economy. We look forward to continuing our successful cooperation with Wizz Air and to welcoming even more passengers at Varna Airport”,  said Michael Reusch, Chief Executive Officer of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

“We are extremely excited to base a third aircraft at our Varna base and to add five new routes to our network from the Bulgarian seaside capital. This investment underlines our long-term commitment to Bulgaria and to the development of connectivity in the Black Sea region. The new services will not only provide passengers with more opportunities for affordable travel across Europe, but will also support tourism, the local economy and job creation. We look forward to welcoming even more passengers on board our flights from Varna. Let’s WIZZ, Varna!”,  commented Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

Varna Airport is looking forward to welcoming all passengers with its signature high-quality service and will continue to ensure a pleasant travel experience!
