Burgas Airport Festively Welcomed Its One Millionth Passenger for 2026 One Day Earlier Than Last Year

The milestone passenger arrived on a Wizz Air flight from Katowice and was welcomed with a special ceremony

On 30 July, Burgas Airport welcomed its  one millionth passenger for 2026, with the symbolic milestone passenger arriving on a  Wizz Air  flight from Katowice, Poland. This significant achievement was reached  one day earlier than in 2025, demonstrating the continued strong demand for travel to and from the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and the airport’s ongoing positive development.

The milestone passenger  -  Agnieszka Paciorek-Hollingsworth,  was welcomed during a special ceremony organised by Burgas Airport. As part of the celebration, the lucky traveller received a selection of special gifts, including a branded travel suitcase from Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD and a 100 EUR Wizz Air travel voucher. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by  the ceremonial cutting of an anniversary cake and commemorative photographs, turning the occasion into a memorable celebration for both the passengers on the flight and all guests attending the event.

Welcoming our one millionth passenger earlier this year, despite the geopolitical challenges and conflicts that affected tourism demand, is far more than a symbolic milestone. It is a meaningful reflection of Burgas Airport’s continued growth and its position as the preferred gateway to Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. This achievement would not have been possible without the trust and support of our passengers, airline partners, stakeholders, and the dedication of our colleagues. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who has contributed to this success. We are especially delighted to celebrate this milestone with Wizz Air, one of our most valued strategic partners. Together, we look forward to further strengthening the region’s connectivity and creating even more opportunities for people to discover the beauty of Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast,” said Michael Reusch, Chief Executive Officer of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

We are extremely happy to celebrate this landmark moment together with Burgas Airport and to welcome the airport’s one millionth passenger on a Wizz Air flight. Bulgaria is one of Wizz Air’s strategic markets, while Burgas remains among our key seasonal destinations. We continue investing in increasingly accessible and convenient air travel opportunities and are delighted to be the second-largest airline at Burgas Airport, while at the same time supporting the development of inbound tourism and the connectivity of the Black Sea region with leading European markets,” added Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

Wizz Air launched its operations in Bulgaria in September 2005, while its first flights to and from Burgas Airport commenced in 2006. Since then, the airline has carried  more than 2.7 million passengers  to and from the seaside city, providing  over 3 million seats. In 2026 alone, Wizz Air is offering  more than 260,000 seats  to and from Burgas, further reinforcing its position as the  second-largest carrier by market share at Burgas Airport.

During the current summer season, Wizz Air operates flights between Burgas and  London Luton, Budapest, Warsaw Chopin, Warsaw Radom, Katowice, Gdańsk and Lublin, providing direct connectivity between Bulgaria’s Southern Black Sea coast and some of Europe’s most important inbound tourism markets.

Reaching the one million passenger milestone earlier than last year is another indicator of the sustainable development of the region’s air connectivity. Burgas Airport continues to work actively with both its existing airline partners and prospective new carriers to further expand its route network and attract even more passengers to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

Burgas Airport looks forward to welcoming all passengers with its signature high-quality service and remains committed to providing an enjoyable travel experience for everyone.
