Burgas Airport celebrates its 90th birthday


On June 29, Burgas Airport celebrated its ninety-year anniversary. In honor of the occasion, an aviation museum was opened in the public area of the airport, exhibiting 9 airplanes. Popular airplanes in the exhibit include Tu-154, An-12, Mig-17 and others. A photo retrospective display with retro photographs and present-day photos from Burgas Airport was showcased in the aviation museum.

The event was attended by current and former employees of the company. The Chief Executive Officer of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD Ulrich Heppe and Director of Burgas Airport Georgi Chipilski honored deserving aviation representatives with special awards. In his speech, Ulrich Heppe dedicated the occasion – 90 year anniversary of Burgas Airport and 70 year anniversary of Bulgarian aviation to the people and specifically to the veterans for their great efforts that have contributed to bring the airport where it is today.

The singer Lyubo Kirov ensured the good mood of all of the guests.

In 2016 Burgas Airport served a record number of passengers, close to 2 900 000 and ranks second as the busiest airport in the country. This year, along with the celebration of its ninetieth anniversary, Burgas Airport expects to surpass its record number of serviced passengers and reach 3 million by the end of the year.
